Red, pink, white and yellow roses: which colour fits which occasion?
Giving flowers is one of the most elegant ways to say something without words. Although the meaning of colours varies from culture to culture, there is a widely accepted vocabulary in Turkey. The right colour strengthens the purpose of the gift.
Rose colours
- Red: love and passion; classic for partners, spouses and anniversaries.
- Pink: gratitude, affection and courtesy; suitable for mothers, sisters and a new relationship.
- White: purity and new beginnings; bridal bouquets, births and get-well wishes.
- Yellow: friendship and joy; promotions, graduations and a get-well visit.
- Orange: excitement and appreciation; a lively choice for celebrating success.
- Lilac: admiration and elegance; for a first meeting or a meaningful thank-you.
Number and packaging tips
In Turkey odd numbers of roses (1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 25) are preferred; even-numbered bouquets are not well received in some circles. A bouquet of 25 red roses is common for anniversaries and proposals, while a single long-stemmed rose is a simple gesture of affection. Kraft wrapping gives a natural effect, matte black a showy one.
What for which occasion?
- Visiting the sick: avoid strongly scented flowers (lily, hyacinth); prefer plain daisies or gerbera.
- Thank-you at work: an orchid or office arrangement leaves a lasting impression.
- New home: a potted plant or succulent garden is suitable.

Mixed-colour bouquets
If choosing a single colour is hard, a mixed bouquet is a good solution. Pastel tones (pink, cream, lilac) send a soft, caring message; vivid tones (orange, yellow, fuchsia) say joy and celebration. In a mix, white flowers balance the colours and give the bouquet a more formal look.
Cultural sensitivities
The chrysanthemum is considered a mourning flower in some cultures; in Turkey it is also used for everyday gifts, but since it is common in condolence wreaths it may seem odd when given to a partner. Yellow carnations and yellow chrysanthemums need similar care. When unsure, write your relationship to the recipient in the order note and our designer will suggest suitable options.
In summary
Flower colour is a message, but the most important thing is a sincere note. If you cannot choose a colour, write two lines for the card and we will handwrite it. A gift that arrives on time and fresh is remembered more than its colour.
